Physical Therapy Assistant

The Chesapeake Area Consortium for Higher Education

The Chesapeake Area Consortium for Higher Education (CACHE) was formed in 1995 by three community colleges serving nine counties of southern and central Maryland: Anne Arundel Community College, College of Southern Maryland, and Chesapeake College. CACHE was established to sponsor joint programs among the Consortium institutions for which there was a defined need and demand in the region, but which were too costly for an individual college to support on its own.

CACHE is governed by a three-member Executive Board consisting of academic vice presidents or deans of instruction from each of the member colleges. One of these officers serves as the chair of the Executive Board annually, on a rotational basis. A program director administers the PTA program for the three-college Consortium and reports to the Executive Board.

The CACHE Physical Therapist Assistant program is accredited by the Commission on Accreditation in Physical Therapy Education (CAPTE), 3030 Potomac Ave., Suite 100, Alexandria, Virginia 22305-3085; telephone: 703-706-3245; email: accreditation@apta.org; website: www.capteonline.org.

Students who complete the two-year, five-term program receive an Associate of Applied Science degree from their home college. Graduates are eligible to take the National Licensing Examination for Physical Therapist Assistants.
